Welcome to the Working Group on Climate Change and Agricultural Water Management (WG-CLIMATE)

The purpose of the Working Group (WG) is to review existing information and predictions on Global Climate change (GCC) and to explore and analyze the medium-term implications for irrigation, drainage, and flood control (termed "irrigation" for short).

Our Approach & Output

ICID has established a Working Group of self-selected and appointed professionals ideally comprising a mix of GCC and irrigation, drainage, and flood control specialists.

In addition, other interested and informed professionals will be invited to prepare papers and make presentations to the WG. The central focus for discussion will be a set of workshops held at the next three IEC meetings - Kula Lumpur, Sacramento and Lahore - on the topic. These workshops will provide a forum for presenting papers exploring various elements of the GCC/Irrigation nexus and discussing the issues raised. In advance of the workshops, national committees (NCs) will be invited to submit questions which they would like to see addressed in the workshops.

The primary output from the WG's efforts will be the series of 3 workshops. The WG will decide subsequently if a summary document consolidating the results of the workshops is warranted.

Mandate
